IMAGE DISPLAYS

Lets review some examples of images and what the pixel values represent.  Here are two IR images.  The line across represents the location of a line segment along which we will plot the pixel values of image brightness(some value between 0 and 255) and image temperature (based on the calibrated relationship between satellite radiometer voltage-> radiance -> brightness value -> temperature).

GOES 8 Thermal-IR (Band 4) Plot  w/ Pixel Brightness value

GOES 8 Thermal-IR (Band 4) Plot  w/ Pixel Temperature values

Here we can view just the plots of brightness value and corresponding Planck's Temperature (derived from radiance, which we do not plot here).

GOES 8 Water Vapor (Band 3) Plot  w/ Pixel Brightness value

Histogram representative of the range of water vapor pixel brightness values.

GOES 8 Water Vapor (Band 3)  Color-enhanced, stretched image plot  w/ pixel brightness value
